Finished Nixonland and moved on to this which has been lurking with intent on my bookshelves for over a year. Without consciously choosing it for that reason it ties in nicely with memes raised in Nixonland regarding the unresolved long-term impacts of slavery on American society. But the focus is an engrossing evocation of an intense father-son relationship and the enigmatic figure of John Brown himself. Highly recommended.
