Well, of the Galette des Rois et least
Another fine French (culinary) tradition - originally used to celebrate Epiphany and now more an excuse to draw the curtain on Christmas and New Year celebrations. The cake has a light multi-layer pastry usually with a frangipane (almond paste) filling, though there were some with apple filling as well, best consumed with a glass of dry cider. The slices are shared around by the youngest person in the group and one contains a small porcelain thumbnail sized figurine called a “fève” in French. The person who finds it becomes the “king” (or queen depending on gender and/or orientation) for the day.
I managed to find it (a Snoopy figure) in my slice without causing major damage to my dental work. I even got a crown just like the one shown.
Vive la France I say. Let them eat galette.
