Science stuff

Some random cool nerdy links I came across whilst browsing today...

  • The 155th anniversary of the birth of Heinrich Hertz.
Google users may have noticed it was celebrated on their homepage in their own signature way.
If you ever rely on or use a  radio,  television, cellphone, GPS - basically anything that involves the electromagentic spectrum, or requires very accurate time measurement through atomic clocks, you owe HH mad props.

  • Cormac McCarthy used to make ends meet - before writing books for Matt Damon and Viggo Mortenson to star in the subsequent screen adaptations - editing science books.
  • One of the cool new planets discovered orbiting nearby stars is anything but (cool that is) and probably contains water in forms very unfamiliar to our experience. Supercritical fluids anyone?
