Double Helix

Coming across this review of "The Double Helix" made me dig out the battered first edition from my bookshelves and add it to my (re)-reading list. It really is a wonderful read and an uncomfortably accurate description of the messy, unavoidably collegiate manner in which science generally advances - as long as you can stomach the author's unvarnished arrogance and  chauvinism. It also brings back personally painful memories of making a dismissive remark in conversation about Roslind Franklin's pivotal role in the discovery of DNA, and deservedly being cut down to size for my ignorance in doing so.
